New Associate Member Appointed to EDIC

By Michael Seward, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Belchertown-News.com reported last week that Jennifer Fay had recently been appointed to the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation (EDIC) as an Associate Member. At only 26 years old, Fay is currently the youngest member serving on that board and promises to bring her youthful energy to their efforts.

Fay is a graduate of Bay Path College in Longmeadow with a degree in legal studies and earned her law degree from Campbell University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Although she has passed the bar on her first attempt, she is currently working in sales and marketing at a college in Connecticut, while pursuing opportunities closer to home.

“Right now I’m making an attempt to get a job at the District Attorney’s office,” said Fay. However, she also sees opportunity for the former State School campus site that the EDIC is currently attempting to get cleaned up.

When asked what motivated her to join the EDIC she said, “What motivated me was driving through town and seeing that there is so much we can do—there are so many new things that we can try,” she said.

Her current assignment is spearheading the search for a new attorney. Although the EDIC’s current attorney is on the shortlist, Fay and Associate Member Richard Kump are creating a list of questions for prospective attorneys. The search for a new attorney stems from criticisms in the state audit report regarding EDIC Chairman Bill Terry’s wife creating a conflict-of-interest.

Recognizing the slow-moving wheels of government, Fay hopes to get things done more quickly. “I like to see things get done and quick…and quickness is a challenge,” she said.

The Board of Selectmen is currently seeking people to serve on the Financial and Industrial seats of the EDIC. Letters of Interest should be submitted to Finnerty House, 1 South Main St., Belchertown, MA 01007.
