Board of Health Reports on H1N1 Vaccine Usage
Tuesday,
February 2, 2010
With the combined three H1N1 clinics offered in Belchertown, a total of 1,015 doses have been administered since November. Out of that total, 125 were second doses. The age breakdown of the recipients is as follows: 6 – 23 months: 7; 24 – 59 months: 29; 5 – 18 years: 490; 19 – 24 years: 20; 25 – 49: 142; 50 – 64 years: 198; 65 years and older: 129.
The Board of Health still has plenty of doses left and will be administering the vaccines on Tuesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. in the office at the Town Hall. There is a limited amount of seasonal flu shots left as well.
“I am hoping that at the close of this immunization program, we will have vaccinated about 10% of the population,” said Belchertown’s Director of Public Health Judy Metcalf. “At this time we don’t have any more large clinics planned; however, if there is a resurgence in H1N1 cases in late winter or early spring, we will re-assess. The jury is still out in the scientific community if there will be another wave of H1N1. It’s hard to predict,” said Metcalf.
